Asmodeus is a fascinating and complex figure that appears across various mythologies and religious traditions, most notably within Judeo-Christian demonology. Often depicted as one of the most potent demons or fallen angels, he is frequently associated with lust, temptation, and chaos. His origins trace back to ancient texts, where he is described as a prince of demons, ruling over the sin of lust and embodying the darker aspects of human desire. In some traditions, Asmodeus is considered a force of destruction, wielding considerable influence over those who succumb to their passions. His name, which is sometimes translated as "wrath" or "rage," hints at the destructive power he embodies, and he is often depicted as a handsome but malevolent entity with a sinister agenda.

Throughout history, Asmodeus has appeared in various texts and stories, ranging from the apocryphal Book of Tobit, where he is portrayed as an evil spirit causing suffering, to later occult traditions that see him as a demon summoned for specific purposes. So here at Malphas and Co, we have recently taken a unique approach to honouring Asmodeus. Rather than simply invoking him through traditional rituals, we decided to craft some homemade incense sticks as a gesture of respect and connection. Using leftover ingredients from previous rituals - such as dried herbs, resins, and essential oils - we fashioned incense that we believe captures the essence of Asmodeus's fiery, passionate nature. These ingredients included fragrant frankincense, spicy cinnamon, floral rose, and a hint of patchouli, all of which evoke the sensual and alluring qualities associated with him.

The process of making these incense sticks was both ceremonial and mindful. We carefully combined the herbs and resins, meditating on Asmodeus’s attributes as we did so, aiming to create an offering that would invite his energy during our rituals. The act of repurposing leftover ritual ingredients also symbolised the idea of transformation - taking remnants of past spiritual work and giving them new purpose in honouring a powerful entity. Once the incense sticks were ready, we lit them in a quiet space, allowing the fragrant smoke to fill the room and create an atmosphere conducive to focus and connection.

In doing so, we sought to establish a respectful and meaningful relationship with Asmodeus, recognising both his destructive and transformative aspects. Our homemade incense serves as a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds, a tangible offering that honours his presence and invites his energy into our work. Through this act, we aim to deepen our understanding of the forces at play within ourselves and the universe, acknowledging that powerful entities like Asmodeus can be both guides and catalysts for personal growth when approached with respect and intention.
